About Mac
Mac Martine is a SaaS bootstrapper and serial founder who has been building software products since around 2007. He is co-founder of DemandBird, an AI-powered content repurposing platform, and co-founder of Wildfront, a holding company that acquires and nurtures profitable bootstrapped SaaS businesses alongside co-founder Alex Boyd, with whom he earlier built Aware, a LinkedIn engagement tool later acquired by Taplio.
His defining build was Castanet, a LinkedIn lead-generation tool he started solo in 2018 and grew through a white-label reseller model. It reached its first paying customer within weeks, roughly $8K MRR inside six months, and $58K MRR before Mac sold it in a life-changing exit in 2021. He has told that story publicly on Indie Hackers and across the bootstrapping podcast circuit.
Since 2017 Mac has published The SaaS Bootstrapper, a newsletter and podcast for founders building profitable software without outside funding. He has interviewed operators like Indie Hackers founder Courtland Allen, and packaged what he has learned about finding and validating ideas into a short course, the Bootstrapper's Guide to Idea Generation.
Mac writes about bootstrapping, idea validation, customer discovery, and the unglamorous mechanics of getting a SaaS product to profitability and beyond. He is based in Portland, Oregon.
